Campaign “500 bottle caps for a life without polio”
Social commitment is a high priority at Mayser, which is why we always support the dedication of our employees to a good cause. The bottle cap collection campaign of the registered association “Deckel drauf” (which translates loosely as ‘Put a lid on it’) inspired the apprentices in Lindenberg to start their own campaign. Located in Nuremberg, the association is collecting plastic screw-on bottle caps through the end of June 2019 in a campaign titled “Caps against polio” to generate donations for vaccinations to prevent the disease. The campaign, which was initiated in 2014, so far has financed three million oral vaccinations worldwide.
The collection of plastic bottle caps at the Mayser factory in Lindenberg was started at the beginning of May to help the association in bringing its campaign to a successful close. Several containers were set up next to the beverage machines to motivate everyone to participate in the campaign. At the end of June the caps will be taken to a collection point established by the “Deckel drauf” association. From there they will be transported to a specialised company that uses the caps to manufacture granules for new plastic caps and also for garden furniture. The proceeds from the sale of the products will go to the project “End Polio Now” of the German Rotary Club, which has set the goal of eliminating polio worldwide.
This campaign is just one example of how we are expanding our social commitment. Mayser already makes annual donations to the association for children suffering from tumours and leukaemia in Ulm. The collection campaign simultaneously supports Mayser’s environmental goal of “reduction of plastic”. We are therefore pleased about every single cap that finds it way into one of the collection containers.
