Active measures against shortage of specialists

Mayser expands training and study opportunities in IT sector

Employers throughout Germany face the same challenge: The demand for specialists in the IT sector is growing faster than the training opportunities. To counteract the shortage of specialists Mayser is integrating two new occupations in the company’s training and study program. Starting in September, school-leavers can start training as an IT specialist for system integration, and starting in autumn 2020 they can begin an integrated course of studies in business information technology.

Limited training opportunities for careers in demand

At the career fair “vocatium” in Neu-Ulm it was clear how urgently training positions are needed: Only eight of the 83 participating companies offered training as an IT specialist for system integration; for an integrated course of studies in business information technology there were only seven relevant companies, including Mayser. Young talent in the IT sector is also scarce at the national level: While the number of students increased by five percent in 2018, there was a 16 percent increase in the number of open positions. This situation not only makes it more difficult for companies in search of specialists, but also presents a challenge for school-leavers interested in information technol-ogy to find training or study opportunities. Mayser’s contribution there-fore benefits both companies and employees – in two subject areas:

Training as IT specialist for system integration

Trainees as IT specialists for system integration learn how to plan, implement and maintain complex hardware and software systems. The training is offered jointly by Ulm’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Robert-Bosch School in Ulm.

Integrated course of studies in business information technology

Prospective students of business information technology at the DHBW Heidenheim can likewise look forward to an interesting course of studies. Seminars in business administration provide insight into the complex processes of an enterprise, in order to analyse, design and opti-mise the company’s information and communication systems.

Training with a future

The prospects for the future are ideal: Digitisation and IT security are gaining in importance at the Ulm location. Enterprises require not only an extensive repertoire of hardware and software, but above all trained specialists. Digitisation is also a very important issue for the city. Within the framework of the German Sustainability Award, Ulm was nominated in June for the special award for digitisation.

And there is another reason why future graduates at Mayser hardly have to worry about the future: “Our goal is to offer trainees and students continued employment after completion of their respective programs”, explains Winfried Wanka, Member of the Executive Board – HR & Legal Department. “We offer them the opportunity to become highly qualified specialists.”
